We flew from Bangalore to Cochin to avoid some seriously long night bus rides. Walking down the street in India is quite the challenge - remembering to look in the opposite direction when crossing the street, watching out for piles of things, sleeping dogs, and remembering that the center line is only a suggestion so vehicles can come at you from any direction!
Though we know that the Portuguese settled here long ago it still seems strange to see so many Catholic churches. They always have a real Indian flair though.
This image seemed decidedly Eastern Orthodox.
This church dated to 1502! And was where Vasco da Gama was buried - until they moved him back to Portugal. We think the bus rides are strenuous - these explorers were lots more intrepid.
Back to our homestay out of the craziness of town. Our host arranged for a sunset cruise on this boat.
It was a most pleasant respite from the intense heat and humidity here. And we enjoyed seeing the Chinese fishernets. Basic technology with rocks as the ballast to lift them.
Such peaceful scenes - much appreciated after the chaos of town.
On our way to Alleppy in the Keralan backwaters. Figuring out the line up system in India is always interesting.
Have never seen such an empty train in India!
The heat, the rhythm and the peacefulness of the empty train made for a great nap! We arrived 15 minutes early - and since they don't announce the stations we came VERY close to not getting off!
Beautiful scenery along the way.
